Conscience Calling

by Sarah Schonert

V1 This is your conscience calling I think it’s time for a nudge Forget what you sinned Let’s see what you left undone Chorus Everything you might have been. Is buried in your hesitations, fears, years, and sin All the things you could have done Are wrapped up in the maps of your daughters and your sons So are you gonna pin it on them To break down the walls that you’re too scared to climb? Stalling all of your remaining days Looking back at your tracks, just wasting your time? V2 This is your past come forward Screaming for the regrets It’s time to knock down barriers That are all in your head Will you abandon all reason for a sliver of light? Chorus x 2 Are you happy with where you are now? Can you say that you lived your life? So what are you going to do to somehow Make it right You know that second chances Rarely fall in your way Would you even recognize them Staring you in the face Will you abandon all reason For sliver of life? To feel that fire again You can’t be scared of the light So whatcha gonna do to make it right? Chorus x 2

Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop Just because i slowed it down I slowed you down But rest assured i havent stopped you Reorder cells Orient myself and settle out Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop Just because i slowed it down One single frown Spreads to pain and searching open Let me explain To calm your hope; repair your mean Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop Just because i slowed it down A little bump But I'll keep it on its axis A steady hand To cauterize this bleeding wound One worried brow Perfect eyes are cast in shadow A noiseless word Smooths instant age, allows the light I’m hanging on By nails and determination Looks easy I know My smile is only for your sake Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop Just one pass through Could never do it justice That’s nothing new But I know you hate to read Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop I slowed you down But rest assured i havent stopped you Reorder cells Orient myself and settle out Cataclism is not emiment For this planet Rotation is continuous Please don't stop

Marble Bag 02:56
You walk it back That’s not what you meant Okay, I’ll hear you out this once Marble bag Hold it upside down Raining thoughts roll under furniture Meets your foot Whatcha reaching for Words roll your ankle? Sand in your shoe Kinda serves you right Reminds you of your mistakes We pulled you in and threw you back out You took sides with the tides to not be wrong Marble bag Hold it upside down Raining thoughts roll under furniture Meets your foot Whatcha reaching for Words roll your ankle?

Circle slowly Trace the patterns of your travels on suitcase Unzip it slowly It’s been sitting at the bottom of the ocean I’ve been meaning to write you Something of a deluge Of imagined trips and hotel beds Fragmented smiles and blushing asides It’ll wait ‘til morning Keep your lonely I’ve weaponized my giant eyes to send a photo I’ve got your lonely I’m holding onto lifetimes in a bottle I’ve been meaning to write you It’s something of a deluge Of memory spheres, a glorious mess Hair in my eyes, you brush it away and say It’ll wait ‘til morning Forget me if you want to Gauzy years won’t blur your face A moment memorized, but nothing more to say But It’ll wait ‘til morning

I am sad to say this shell is the only thing that’s left Green and pink, pearlescent swirl, sure it’s pretty but it’s dead I crawled out from the ocean. Made my way along the sand I was headed toward the city when you put me in your hand I was dying in your pocket long before You got me home I wish that you had left me where you found me You stopped at all the usual haunts. Had a drink and had a laugh I was gracious and demure, in the shadow of your friends You showed me off, your little treasure. Precious token who can sing Voice was sweet but getting sadder as I thought about the sea I was dying in your pocket long before You got me home I wish that you had left me where you found me All for lights Beyond the moon on the waves I’d be alive If I’d stayed You took me up the steps, scraped your key against my cheek Unlocked a door but all I heard was a metallic sort of creek Step pause and turn, you pulled me scared out of your coat That’s where I collapsed upon the floor, clutching madly at my throat I was dying in your pocket long before You got me home I wish that you had left me where you found me

It could have been worse I guess Pull me out of this hole Wipe the salt off my dress I could look a lot worse But I know I’m a mess When I’m fully composed I’ll give you a call What’s tolerable for tolls Wasn’t tolerable at all This is no place for a bridge I put it up take it down I wrote the chords unhinged When I’m fully composed I’ll give you a call What’s tolerable for tolls Wasn’t tolerable at all Take my cut Ring it up You owe me You’re broke I woke With headache Rum and Frozen Coke When I’m fully clothed I’ll give you a call What’s tolerable for tolls Was not affordable It’s getting kinda late Interred I’m recycling words Differently inferred I’m yelling in the dark Why can’t you hear? When I’m fully clothed I’ll give you call What’s tolerable for tolls Was not affordable Keep your words to yourself Dear friend But I should shut my mouth I should hide my head Should keep to myself I keep talking instead When I’m fully enclosed I’ll give you a call I’m closing the tolls Til I’m no longer miserable
