I can’t find my way through all this noise I can’t find my way through all this noise Find my calm Find my core You are all About control I breathe in deep In my head But my lungs can’t draw a breath I can’t find my way through all this noise I can’t find my way through all this noise Into the woods Into the storm That’s my brain on overload I’m awake I’m asleep I am lost Within a dream I can’t find my way through all this noise I can’t find my way through all this noise When I'm swinging arms and flailing You’ll find me here Eyes are flashing throwing lightning And angry as a god Scream to make a point You're the water on the fire Turn the ashes over And I'm reduced to the glow you wanted Playing catch With my pride While my fire’s In your eyes Stay my words Stay my plans Find the place where I am I can’t find my way through all this noise I can’t find my way through all this noise

Chamade 05:13
We can’t talk if we’re shouting I don’t really understand What you’re telling me you want We can’t stand if we’re falling I raise the defensive hand Before we’re ever off the ground Chorus Time out please My heart is beating candidly Painful rhythm finding voice Chamade, chamade Cadence bleeds Deep, raw, begging agony Bell-like peal soul appeal Chamade, chamade V2 We can’t start if we’re stopping Spinning wheels are grinding gears And I can’t see through all the smoke We can’t feel if we’re freezing Friction ignites, sparking fights Heated arguments for warmth Chorus So Time out please My heart is beating candidly Painful rhythm finding voice Chamade, chamade Cadence bleeds Deep, raw begging agony Bell-like peal soul appeal Chamade, chamade Sound a trumpet blast As I march up to the gate Bring your white And wrap it around me I will hold fast We can deliberate Tell your drum line To just slow down the pace

I'm trying to define the sound of falling down The sound of waiting... before the break I'm trying an experiment and it's not going to be pretty I think I see the ground I think I see the sound I'm trying an experiment and it's not going to be pretty I think I see the ground Do you want to see it too? I think it's like the whip whistle of flying wires I think it's Alice's fingers scraping the dirt down the rabbit hole I think it's like a panicked scream caught in a dream Oh jeeze I'm trying to define the sound of falling down The sound of waiting... before the break (9.8 meters per second squared) I think it's like the whip whistle of flying wires I think it's Alice's fingers scraping the dirt down the rabbit hole I think it's like a panicked scream caught in a dream Oh jeeze Down down down down down... I'm trying to define the sound of falling down The sound of waiting... before the break This isn't going to pretty! I think I see the ground I think I see the sound Do you want to see it too? Do you want to see it too? Step to the edge... I'll push you over I'm trying to define the sound of falling down The sound of waiting... before the break I know, I know that it's futile I'm trying to define... Oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh I'm trying to define the sound of falling down The sound of waiting... before the break

Not Swearing 03:18
Are you sure? I don't remember This contract That you signed I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind Lights burn through this night like a spyglass Throw some water on it fast I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind I'm not fooled by your mask of blind need You knew exactly what you were doing I don't see My signature Resting solid on The dotted line I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind Hot lights burn through this night like a heat lamp Throw some water on it fast I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind I'm not fooled by your mask of blind need Are you pure? That's a good one Seraphim You sure ain't I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind Hot lights burn through this night like a heat lamp Throw some water on it fast I'm not swearing an oath to your memory Wasn't me in my right mind I'm not fooled by your mask of blind need

Hold You Up 05:16
I know What's good for me I sold That part of me I'm gonna ignore it Rolling on with the chorus Wait, wait, wait, wait please hold me up I'll hold you up Train tracks and such Faint flake, fake feint. Raise your hands higher Blue eyes and fire Framed facts and ire I throw Treasure Away I'm sure You'll walk away some day I'm gonna ignore it Rolling on with the chorus Wait, wait, wait, wait please hold me up I'll hold you up Train tracks and such Faint flake, fake feint. Raise your hands higher Blue eyes and fire Framed facts and ire You want What's best For us I destroyed That part of us I'm gonna ignore it Rolling on with the chorus Wait, wait, wait, wait please hold me up I'll hold you up Train tracks and such Faint flake, fake feint. Raise your hands higher Blue eyes and fire Framed facts and ire

While you’re preferred I need sleep Pillows look deep enough to dive into Your arms are curative Tea Benefits of frankness and so I’m wondering So where were you when I needed you An hour and forty-two minutes Thirty-three seconds ago Verbs to curbs and reverbs Against the bricks Holed up in my own imaginaivety

"Why are you chaining this to my legs?" you cry "Into the deep in these concrete shoes" Throw you in? Sure You can swim You think it's your fate It ain't no weight but your own I think I'm gonna be my own life line I think I'm gonna be my own life line You think I'm severing your air supply I think I'm gonna be my own life line I try, you try, maybe not, but why? I fly, you fall, blame me for not catching you I'm offering my hand; your elbows are locked Stretch out and reach, for God's sake Fingers bent Just un-clench your fist You think it's your fate It ain't no weight but your own I think I'm gonna be my own life line I think I'm gonna be my own life line You think I'm severing your air supply I think I'm gonna be my own life line You're under the lie I was born from stars You didn't see the ashes or the scars Strong vellum Frosted and thin You think it's my fate It ain't no weight but my own

Oh Gretchen 05:19
A little dusty A little bruised Hey Gretchen Are you feeling used Stuck in the dark In the back room Are you dreaming of new strings A creaking key And footsteps fall You hear voices From the hall Used to silence For so long Were you hoping for music Will they tear the house down around you Will they leave you where they found you To leave me dreaming without you A shift in weight And some relief Into the truck But carefully Not forgotten Not just a thing Years since you’ve seen the sunlight Will they tear the house down around you Will they leave you where they found you To leave me dreaming about you Strip the lawyer But keep the brain And the hammers Their still the same There in the shop You see her face Are you ready You are worth more Than just your name Mellow tone Is bright again And in the light You will sustain A lifetime of music Are you ready... for fingers again? Will they tear the house down around you Will they leave you where they found you To leave me dreaming about you Oh Gretchen Will they tear the house down around you Will they leave you where they found you To leave me dreaming without you

about

While determining what to call my next LP, I kept bouncing back and forth between “Songs About Sounds” and “My Life is a Musical.” I had a few songs already chosen and all lent themselves to either title. In the end, “Songs About Sounds” won out. Every song on this album is either directly about sound or makes use of sound in a unique way that I felt was appropriate. The bonus songs are very much trying to capture my take on a few sounds. With the same upbeat energy as “Penguin Party” but the personal nature of “My Unwinding State,” I enjoyed every minute of recording this album.
