Gretchen is my early 1900’s Ivers and Pond Princess Grand Piano. And the story in this song is based on her real story... discovered in an old home in Central Illinois that was slated to be torn down, someone contacted a local restorer to check out this piano that was shoved into what was basically an oversized closet. All he had to see was the name above the keys to know that he needed to get this piano out and fix it up. My family and I bought Gretchen while she was being rebuilt.
